medical mission 2020 canceled due to coronavirus
On January 30th, the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus epidemic as “a public health emergency of international concern.” Since then, we have heard from many of you, and VnHOPE had a board meeting to include our officers, advisory board members and our entire student leadership team on 2/8/2020.
All in attendance discussed and reviewed at length our understanding of the current epidemic. We agree that we don’t know the full extent of the viral natural progression and the timeline of its containment. However, we also agree that our priority is the well being and safety of our volunteers AND our patients. Our organization is unique in the fact that we travel to Vietnam as a large group, mostly consisting of students. In addition, our rural clinics promote the gathering of patients waiting and receiving services. Exposure risks to our volunteers and our patients are a consideration.
Therefore, we will be cancelling our summer medical mission 2020. However, our volunteers are engaged and motivated to work towards serving our underserved communities. Our student leadership team will be working to organize projects to support our local populations.
Thank you for your support, understanding and patience. Be on the lookout for more details from our student leadership team.
We hope to start registration on 11/1/2020 for medical mission 2021!!
