APPLICATIONS DEADLINE: registration for mission 2019 is closed as of 1/12/2109. The information below is only for future planning. We will start accepting applications for mission 2020 starting on 11/1/2019.
Applications from healthcare professionals: Primary care physicians, pediatricians, gynecologists, optometrists, dentists, pharmacists, registered nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, registered nurses and dental hygienists continue to be accepted until we finalize our team.
• High school students will only be considered if accompanied by a parent who is a healthcare professional on the mission.
• High school/college/professional/graduate students: This year we will accept 50 student volunteers for the mission. Please apply early because we will close enrollment as soon as our capacity is reached, even if it is before the March 15, 2019 application deadline.
• Health care professionals: please apply as early as possible because the credentialing process to obtain business visas for healthcare professionals is lengthy and complex. We would not want you to miss out on traveling with us because your paperwork got delayed.
$1700 for health professionals
$1500 for adults
$1200 for students
Land fees cover all group camp activities including domestic transportation, meals, lodgings and field trips but do not cover individual activities. The remaining funds will be used for patient care to include the purchase of medical supplies, equipment, medications, wheelchairs, glasses, local follow up care or surgical care for patients.
All volunteers with VnHOPE will need a business visa ( a 1 mo single entry permit dated 6/15-7/14/2019) to work in the medical mission clinics. If your plans include staying or traveling around VN beyond the mission dates, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa yourself. Click Visa for more information .
VnHOPE will be applying for a BUSINESS VISA via Titan Travel (a travel agency in Southern California) for all admitted volunteers.
The fee for the required business visa will be:
$65 for the application, payable to VnHOPE
TOTAL DONATION FOR OUR MEDICAL MISSION:
The TOTAL donation would include the land cost (per volunteer category : from $1200 to $1700) plus $65 for the business visa (1 month single entry permit.)
Please review the above section on land costs for specifics on what this donation covers.
Air travel is not included and is to be arranged by each volunteer. Personal expenses are at the discretion of each volunteer.
Volunteers can make their own international flight arrangements.
Please apply online by filling out the medical mission application. Applications will be available for registration and submission starting November 1, 2018 for all volunteers.
Please choose the volunteer category which best describes you.
Adult Volunteers Application: Non-health professional adults who are crucial to the operation and organization of the mission. Registered nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, registered nurses, dental hygienists, clinic assistants, lab assistants and medical assistants are to register under this category because your licenses won’t need to be submitted to the Local Health Department in Vietnam.
Health Professional Volunteers Application: Primary care physicians, pediatricians, gynecologists, optometrists, dentists and pharmacists are to register under this category since your current professional licences need be submitted to the Local Health Department in Vietnam.
Student Volunteers Application: High school, undergraduate, graduate and professional students are encouraged to apply. Students who are one year out from an undergraduate or graduate program and who are taking a gap year, are still considered student volunteers and not adult volunteers.
The table below gives you an idea of the required documents that will be needed to complete your application:
Once your application is submitted with the requested documents, an interview will be arranged. Priority will be given to applications that are correctly completed. There will not be an interview without a CV. Students will be interviewed by Student Leaders. Healthcare professionals and adult volunteers will be interviewed by the Mission Leader or Assistant Mission Leader.
Students will be accepted based on their own merit and performance during the interviews. A second interview may be necessary to help the committee make the final decision. Preference is given to returning volunteers in good standing, previous applicants who qualified but did not get accepted and to children of healthcare professionals participating in the mission.
Once offered a position in the mission, volunteers must email their acceptance to participate within 2 weeks of the date of notification and a deposit of $265 will be required to reserve their interest in the program. Full land and business visa costs will be due on 5/15/2019.
Additional information will be made available to all admitted volunteers as we will have preparatory planning meetings before the trip. Don’t worry, we’ll give you plenty of details on what to pack! (see packing list)
